Easter is just a week or so away as I write this blog post. I didn’t have a lot of time to decorate earlier because we did a lot of traveling back and forth to visit my husband’s mom who was in the process of dying. Then we had the funeral and more traveling to help out his dad who is slowly adjusting to the single life again. Though very sad about losing her, we have the hope of Spring and believe that we will see our mother again. So glad she is no longer suffering and so very happy about that. That brings me to now. My daughter is bringing a friend home for the weekend and it was definitely time to spruce up my decor and get ready for the Easter holiday.
Fun Glass Jar Decor
We have had record snow and rainfall and for Utah that is crazy. Well even though we have really crazy unpredictable Spring weather. So if there is no spring outside, at least I can bring some Spring inside. This cute display does just that. You will need a few supplies to quickly and easily put it together. That’s the best part. And the way it looks sitting on a piano or shelf of course.
Here is your list of things you will need:
- Decorative glass jar. Look around your kitchen and home. It needs to be a glass jar you can see through. They come in all shapes and sizes you could even make this DIY Easter display with one or more mason quart jars. You can put a lid on it or you don’t have to put anything on the top of the jar.
- You will need some Spanish Moss to layer your jar with. I don’t get paid for saying this but I like to buy the bright green Spanish Moss from Wal Mart. If they don’t have it, then check your local craft store or Amazon for some.
- Plastic Easter eggs
Just a few supplies for this quick, easy, and cute Easter decoration. Place some moss in the bottom of your glass jar. There isn’t any real strategy to it, just grab some moss, eyeball it and lay it on the bottom of your jar. If you choose a jar that isn’t big enough for your hand to fit, use a long spatula or long spoon to arrange it after you drop it in the bottom.
This is the really easy part. Alternate your eggs and Spanish Moss. There aren’t any strict rules here. Just put moss then eggs, moss, and eggs, etc…I put some moss hanging over the side too once I got to the top. Then I put the lid on and tied a lace bow to the top of the lid. I slipped some bright pink satin ribbon inside the bow of the lace and let it hand down the side of the display. Love that look! You can add strips of fabric, colorful ric rac whatever you have on hand or whatever you think will look the best.
DIY Unexpected Container Easter Planter
I really lucked out recently while visiting family. I was staying with my son and daughter in law and their cute children (aka my amazing grandchildren). We had gone to play pickle ball and walked by the dumpsters at their townhome. Sitting on the cement right in front of the dumpster was a beautiful teal colored strainer. I wasn’t thinking of using it in the kitchen I had so many grand ideas of using it for diy decor haha! I grabbed it. After all it was a freebie.
I love angel vine and had some growing in a cement container. I put it in my blue/green container. It looked so festive and Easter like. Go on a scavenger hunt around your home and try to find a fun container you can put inside the unexpected container. Then add a cute bunny sitting on top of your plant. If come up empty handed when looking for an unexpected Easter type container then take a trip to your local thrift shop. You are sure to find a charming container there.
Enhance Your Picture With A Second Frame
My life is built around the Savior Jesus Christ and so I love including a picture of him when decorating for Easter. There is something calming too about displaying a picture of Jesus. A few Christmases ago, my son and his wife gave me this beautiful print of Jesus. I put it in a gold frame. It sits on my mantel. I added a white french country cottage or shabby chic frame around it to soften the gold frame. You can take a thrift shop frame, paint it white, and then sand it a bit. It gives my picture a simple Easter look don’t you think? Over the top of the picture, I hung a wreath. We have two weeping willow trees in our yard. They are very tall and very old. In the Spring, I gather branches and make some willow wreaths to dry. You can add a wreath and put flowers on the wreath to make it look even more “Springy”.
Give A Stack Of Books The Easter Look
You can find all kinds of things to accent a stack of books you display. I had a small ceramic bunny and I bought these large bottle brush trees at Christmas time. I couldn’t resist setting a bunny under the tree. It adds a quick little Easter touch to my mantel. That way you get more use out of your bottle brush trees too.
Olive Oil Jar Turned Vase
You probably have a certain brand of olive oil or whatever oil you cook with that you like. I like cooking with Tuscan brand olive oil. As an upside to buying this oil, it is sold in a beautiful looking amber jar. These jars once washed, cleaned and dried out make a beautiful vase. I just stuck dried faux hydrangea into the jar and a bit of dried lavender. You can add more flowers than I did. I just kept it simple but it adds a beautiful Spring accent to my Easter display on my fireplace mantel. Easy, simple, and elegant looking.
Bird In A Nest
Nests and birds are a sure sign of Spring and go perfectly with the Easter theme. If you have trees in your yard, you might be able to find a real nest that has been abandoned. I don’t recommend taking a nest currently a residence for a bird laying eggs though. You can buy a nest or even make one. Then tuck a bird into that nest and place it in front of a vase or place it all by itself on a shelf, mantel, or piano. Instant simple Easter decor. If you want to elevate the nest look, add some ribbon, add the bright green Spanish moss, small pinecones, small blooms, etc…to your nest.
Make A Cute Applique Bunny And Flower Banner: DIY How To’s
I wrote a tutorial for making this banner. You will find it here Fabric Bunny And Flower Applique Banner: DIY How To’s It might look complicated but it really isn’t and you can display it all Spring and Summer long. You can give it as a gift to a friend or a family member. Hang it in a baby nursery or in a child’s room for wall decor.
